So; what’s the alternative?

So; what’s the alternative?

A dear friend of mine invited me to sit at the Right to Life” booth during the Ann Arbor Art fair going on this week.  I’ve done this plenty of times in the past in Monroe County, so I thought it would be a nice change of environment. It was a 2 hour shift in the stifling heat, but we were ready!

Or were we?…….

We stayed behind our area (as instructed), and just as a friendly gesture, offered “Life Saver” mints to those that walked by. Interesting to see how some people would react. Some people literally looked away, as if the mere thought of our cause made them uncomfortable. But In all honesty, I feel as though we truly got better reception than I would have thought….I mean, we were in Ann Arbor 😉

As a gentleman approached us, and we struck up conversation with us, his attention directed toward the petition that lay upon the table awaiting signatures. This petition was for the ban on partial birth abortion. As we kindly attempt to explain exactly what partial birth abortion is, he asks….

“So, what’s the Alternative?”

{{Did he REALLY just ask us that?}}

“The alternative?….well…..LIFE!! Life would be the alternative sir. Adoption, these women could give their baby to a loving family for adoption”

“But, it’s SO hard to give up your baby” he replies with.

I know I have heard that very statement before, but for some reason today, I just couldn’t wrap my head around it. I am not naive, I know that NO decision for an unplanned pregnancy is an easy decision, but I just can’t understand the philosophy behind the thought that people can end the life of the child within them, but they cannot make the brave decision to give it a new one!

After briefly attempting to explain the procedure, the gentleman pleasantly exited our area. Yes, he left on a friendly note, but unfortunately remained completely ignorant to the harsh truth of abortion.

After this, I thought I’d share a few facts on the matter. (and of course opinion)

According to Michigan Highway safety patrol; there were 980 motor vehicle traffic deaths in 2008

According to MDCH there were 3,232 deaths related to Cancer in 2008 (819 being Leukemia, 922 prostate, and 1,491 being breast cancer)

An Astounding 24,369 lives were claimed in 2008 related to heart disease, but that STILL isn’t all…..

In 2008 25,164 Lives were claimed by abortion, in Michigan alone!

The estimated number of more than 1,000,000 abortions performed EACH year right here in America is higher than the deaths in combat during EVERY war and conflict in ALL of American History from 1775 through 2010!

An unborn babies heart BEATS at a mere 18 days AFTER conception! That is Usually BEFORE the woman has even discovered she is “with child” yet!

Do you really believe in the common arguments that it’s a woman’s right to choose, because it is HER body? (Again trying to wrap my head around the concept that an unborn baby with a completely different DNA is deemed part of MY body)

Do you feel that same government stands by that principle when YOU make the CHOICE to NOT use a seatbelt?….No, they don’t! (That’s why you get a ticket)

Or how about when a person murders a pregnant woman…they are charged with DOUBLE murder….yup, 2 people!!

I realize women are deceived. I have worked with crisis pregnancy long enough, to feel their hurt, their struggles, and their loneliness with them!

If you, or someone you know has had an abortion, please know that there is a God of restoration, and healing awaiting you! He loves you, and grieves for you and your loss. While, you can never restore the life of your unborn child, you CAN restore the life of you! All you have to do is seek Him, trust in Him, and walk with Him…there is TRUE restoration there!

For we are glad when we are weak and you are strong. Your restoration is what we pray for.
