Awake {5 Minute Friday}

On Fridays around these parts we stop, drop, and write.

For fun, for love of the sound of words, for play, for delight, for joy and celebration at the art of communication.

For only five short, bold, beautiful minutes. Unscripted and unedited. We just writewithout worrying if it’s just right or not.

OK, are you ready? Give me your best five minutes on:

Awake…

Go.

The husband places his head on the pillow, and is snoring within seconds…….literally seconds!
As I lye awake through the night, my mind races
races with thoughts
Thoughts about the past, the future….
Where have I gone wrong as a wife, as a mother, and as a follower?
Why do I critique our lives so much?
Why can’t I accept and move forward?
Why are these expectations so unrealistic?
Are they unrealistic?
 
As morning approaches, I know I want to awake before the wild things….
but I’m so tired
so weary
my heart still heavy
with each new morning.
 
But ah…yes, His promise of new Mercies each morning…..
 
Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail. 
 They are new every morning; 
{Lamentations 3:22-23}
 
 
can I awaken to them?
 
Awaken my soul Lord…..but first let me rest!
 
Stop!

  1. I have the same problem — my husband’s head hits the pillow and I toss and turn. Recently, I started offering up one sentence prayers, followed by “Lord, in your mercy, hear my prayer” after each sentence. The repetition made me sleepy and I was allowed to leave my burdens in His hands.

  2. Great reminder here: “His promise of new Mercies each morning.” It’s because of that mercy that we wake up each day; can’t get over the beauty of that!

    I LOVE this idea..I’ve always wanted to try it but chicken out at the last second, or forget it’s Friday till like tuesday and then I say, OH! darn it, maybe next week. Too much of my life is getting put off by me making that statement, this might be just a little stand but I wanna make it there this time, today..Follow the link and say you’ll join me?
