Hungry Kids = Bad Mom

I’m just gonna throw it out there….

I. Am. A. Bad. Mom…..

Just ask them.

My boys attend public schools (despite my protesting)

So that means, the nonsense begins at about 6:30am. The “plan” is to pull out of driveway between 7:30-7:35.

Things 1 through 3 get themselves up every morning….li

But Things 4 and 5…..A.N.O.T.H.E.R. story here.

It’s as if I go back and forth from each Bedroom……

“Cole wake up” {insert shaking of body}

and back, and for, and back and forth…..

We have attempted water, setting off house alarms, ice, yanking blankets, lifting person from the bed….

We have tried bribing, and punishing, and yelling (only this is one of the times I’m not just yelling because it’s already loud) and even occasionally I remember to try Grace.

So, truth is….

An English breakfast

I’m so wrapped up in waking them, that I rarely have time to prepare a breakfast. Nor, do they really have time to eat it. Regardless of how simple, or elaborate it may be.

And now, Mom is stressing, Things 1 and 2 are yelling at Things 4 and 5 (because even though they get up on time, they too will now be late)

Even to late to catch breakfast AT school….

What kind of Mother allows her children to miss the most important meal of the day?

I literally grieve over this every. single. day as I drop them off.

Now, I know that it’s likely that part of our morning issue starts the night before (that’s a whole other post)

I have tried starting earlier, I have tried preparing breakfasts ahead of time, I have tried many, many things….

Weary Moms out there, do you struggle with this?

Do your boys really enjoy their morning sleep?

How do you help them achieve a balanced morning?

  1. I have threatened my kids with an airhorn. Hun thinks it’s cruel and unusual punishment and thus banned by The Geneva Convention….

    I’m not convinced….

  2. Personally, after a few years of public school, I homeschooled mine to avoid the breakfast nightmare. Now, the youngest is in public high school. They’re old enough to feed themselves, but I still tell them what is available. Apples, cheese and toast is a common breakfast. You can make oatmeal the night before and microwave it in the morning. My kids will even eat leftover dinner (warmed up). I don’t know what the solution for getting them up is.

    • funny you mention left over dinner….9 yr old actually asked me to heat him up soup from last night this morning…lol! Sometimes I make a batch of breakfast burritos and they can pop them in and eat them in route.
We actually plan to homeschool the youngest next year….CAN’T WAIT!! That too will ease the morning nightmare! 🙂

  3. Hi Stacey I too am a single mom , one in hs one junior h , one in elementry , so I have three different start times , I feel really bad about admitting this but my hs boy gets up by himself and gets ready for school and just before he leaves I get up and say good bye then I start with my eighth grader , I need to keep reminding him of what time it is , brush his teeth , hair and lunch , after all this I tickle my second grader til he begs me to stop and then he wakes up laughing , Its awsome to wake them up laughing and seeing that smile ,this makes my day and his , try it , I love my boys with all my heart and just pray they know how much I love them , I think this is my life God wants for me to live and that is to always remember my struggles as a kid and really feel their feelings as I felt at their age to give them hope and encouragement to go for your dreams never forget you can do whatever you want in life if you believe in yourself and have faith of a mustard seed but I prefer a pumkin seed can u imagine a pumkin seed ? how this wordle would can be changed ? thanks for reading , Enjoy you boys and I will too they are our future , Jennie

  4. I have 6 different stops, so I make Blondie take one for me (I think giving your teenager a car means you get to make them do some of the not so fun driving).. We get up at 6:30 and the goal is to leave at 7:25. My husband, who does NONE of the drop offs, actually had the nerve to suggest I get up earlier!! Me, a NON MORNING PERSON… up earlier? Yeah, he has better chances of marrying Sandra Bullock…
