Storm Series Part 2 ~ Rest in Him

Standard

I have been talking about storms, and the impact that they can have on our lives. Especially when fear is instilled at a young age. You can read the first installment here.

But what wasn’t taught to me at this small age, was the knowledge of He who directs the storm. He who calls a storm into motion, and He who calms it. And so a fear was ultimately created in me that would last for many years.

When a Thunder/Lightening storm would strike, I would tremble in fear. For so many years I lived this way. Always fearful that my home would be blown over, torn up, or worse….struck by lightening and catch fire.

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
John 4:39-41

After receiving Jesus as My Lord and Savior once and for all 15 years ago, I slowly began to learn who controls the storm.

And who is in control of my life.

Over time, my fear of storms became more of an awe of His mighty abilities.

I came to appreciate them, rather than fear them.

I came to rest in them, rather than run from them.

I came to be amazed by them, rather than worry from them.

I actually find tranquility in them. As if I am closer to Him,  knowing that He is in control.

A wise friend recently said to me

Tomorrow isn’t promised to us, no matter where we are.

Whether we are in the midst of a storm, away at war, or walking down the street. Our days our numbered by His plan, not Our circumstance.

Do you place your trust in the God of all storms? Or do you still place fear in Him?
